Is keeping your diet motivation one of the most difficult things you have ever tried to do? If you were to ask a cross section of people, what was the hardest thing to do, I’d bet the majority would mention weight loss. Staying focused and maintaining weight loss motivation is so challenging because you genuinely want to shed the extra pounds just in time for that family wedding or the next trip to the beach, but you want to do it yesterday! Despite the fact it took time to put on those extra pounds, somehow we think it will magically vanish with no real effort on our part. Perhaps it’s a result of our ‘I want it now’ society where we can get most things almost instantly. Sadly, the reality is that successful weight loss takes time for everyone.
It’s almost as if we believe that because it appeared to take no effort whatever to accumulate the extra weight we shouldn’t have to make any effort to get rid of it! Unfortunately, weight doesn’t just evaporate from our bodies, and it’s because it requires some effort that the majority of us find it difficult to keep up our diet motivation and keep focusing on our weight loss dreams.
Happily, there is a solution and it begins with a positive mindset. The problem for most of us { is that when the pounds don’t disappear right away, we become frustrated or discouraged, our motivation begins to fade and then we easily give in to temptation. We all have those “It’s not going to work so I might as well just eat” thoughts that put us back just as we are starting the weight loss program.
Beating Weight Loss Motivation Defeating Thoughts
Rather than allowing thoughts like these to plant a seed in your mind, try using affirmations to positively react to these negative thoughts. Doing so will also serve as a reminder of your goal.
Weight loss affirmations can help you lose pounds by encouraging you to stay focused and by boosting your diet motivation, even in times of struggle and disappointment.
We all want to think we have the motivation and self-control needed to lose weight. Unfortunately, when the weight loss takes more work or time than we hoped it becomes easy to become discouraged and quit. The reason is when we get frustrated, we lose sight of why we first on the journey. If you feel you are in danger of giving up or are tempted by forbidden foods, you can grab your list of weight loss affirmations and use them to overcome the self-defeating thoughts and attitudes.
When your weight loss motivation starts to falter and you are about to give up and reach for that bucket of ice cream, you can say to yourself, for example, “If I trip, it’s okay! I have already made the conscious decision that I will not fall back on my old habits.” When you say something like this out loud, you are grabbing power away from the negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones. Taking back this power is an important part of re-establishing command over your actions and keeping a positive attitude. Besides, it’s okay to stumble along the way. It’s how you deal with your stumble that matters. Getting over problems only makes your victory even better!
When you understand how to use weight loss affirmations, you will understand just how powerful these words are in strengthening your weight loss motivation. Affirmations help you overcome negative thoughts and actions allowing you to combat the cravings and deal with frustrations and stress directly without resorting to comfort eating.
The greatest thing with affirmations is that they can be used any time of the night or day. In time they will become embedded into your subconscious. The more you use them, the more positive you will become and the more your behavior will change, and the more power you will have over self-defeating thoughts. Affirmations will help you maintain your focus and boost your diet motivation.
