POLARITY-
NEW ALBUM WITH INTERNATIONAL GUEST ARTISTS
Super-group LAVA are back
and release their new album ”Polarity” in February 2003.
The new album will include
performances by celebrated international artists such as Randy
Crawford, Chris Thompson.
”After a long period working on our own projects
we felt the call to record once again – as a band”, says bassist
Rolf Graf. A brand
new album with several internationally renowned guest artists
is to be released in February.
The first single from “Polarity” is the single “Shine
A Little Light”; a duet featuring LAVA lead vocalist Egil Eldøen
and Randy Crawford.
So, exactly 20 years since their first concert tour,
Randy and LAVA are reunited.
For the record (pun intended!), Randy Crawford has had
three international #1 hits.
“Streetlife”, “One Day I’ll Fly Away” and “Almaz”.

During the eighties and the nineties the LAVA
members played on countless recordings for both Norwegian and
international artists.
To mention just a few: a-ha, Mezzoforte, Lene Marlin
and Sissel Kyrkjebø.
But the band is probably best known for it’s work with
Randy Crawford which includes worldwide tours including two
‘sold-out’ concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
The band’s previous album, “The Rhythm Of Love” was a
great success and reached the #2 place in Norway’s sales list
(VG list). The band
is currently adding finishing touches to “Polarity” and planning
a concert tour.
LAVA was formed in Årdal (a little town on Norway’s
west coast) in 1977.
It was to be an instrumental jazz-rock band with guitarist
Svein Dag Hauge up front.
In 1981, the band recorded the album “Cruisin’” with
the following line-up: Per Hillestad (drummer from the original
line-up), Marius Müller (guitar), Rolf Graf (bass), Per Kolstad
(keyboards), Sigurd Køhn (sax) and Geir Langslet (keyboards).
The album was a success, selling nearly 50.000 copies.
The band was also placed on English club lists and was
a DJ “first choice”.
Guitarist Marius Müller decided
to leave the band to pursue a solo career, but continued to
work with several of the band members on recording and touring
projects. Vocalist
Egil Eldøen joined the band for their second album, “Prime Time”
in 1983 and has been with LAVA ever since.
Soon after, the band was contacted by Randy Crawford’s
management company who were looking for musicians to accompany
their artist on a tour of Scandinavia.
This proved to be an important step for LAVA, their first
real taste of international acclaim.
LAVA’s
first hit came in 1984.
An Eldøen/Crawford duet, “You” from the album “Fire”.
At this point, the band had already successfully toured
large parts of Europe.
Appearances on prestigious television shows such as England’s
“Top Of The Pops”, “Ohne Filter” in Germany and broadcasts from
festivals such as the Montreux Jazzfestival in Switzerland.
Randy Crawford insisted on taking LAVA with her on tours
of Australia, Japan, Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates.
In fact, no other Norwegian pop musicians have played
in as many countries as LAVA.
Recently,
LAVA has dedicated their time to the writing and production
of their new album, “Polarity”.
The band has signed to Audun Tylden’s record company,
Tylden & Co. Audun
was responsible for signing LAVA to PolyGram back in 1979, he
knows their history and has followed the band’s career ever
since.
The new album will include performances by celebrated
international artists such as Randy Crawford, Chris Thompson.
Keyboardist Geir Langslet has now left the band and is replaced
by Stein Austrud from Mandal (south Norway).
