| The Tower
of Power's albums since their peak days of the early and mid-'70s
have either been disappointments or flops. This one came close
to recapturing their past sound, failing only due to weak material.
The charts and arrangements were
more consistent, the vocals at least sung with some energy,
and the production above average. They were hurt by the general
lack of interest in horn funk, and also by the failure of the
label to give it the push it needed.
