The longtime creative union of Boy Meets Girl, originally a Seattle band, is well known for several major hits during the ‘80’s. Following their meeting at a wedding at which the two were hired to perform, George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam fell in love and formed the venture Boy Meets Girl, combining their musical, vocal and lyrical talents.

A move to Los Angeles launched them toward their first commercial success with the self-titled debut album, released on A&M Records in 1985, introducing the single “Oh Girl”, which reached #39 in the top 40 pop charts.

Also in 1985, Shannon and George wrote Whitney Houston’s smash hit “How Will I Know”, topping both the pop and R&B charts at #1 worldwide. The duo matched that success in 1988 by authoring Houston’s Grammy Award winning Song of the Year “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)”, again reaching the top of the charts.

A new Boy Meets Girl album, Reel Life, was released on RCA Records in 1988, containing the upbeat hit song “Waiting For A Star To Fall” (top 5 in the US, #1 in Europe), and the moodier follow up single “Bring Down The Moon” which also made it into the top 40.

George and Shannon recorded their subsequent album, New Dream, in 1991, also on RCA/BMG, and continued to write throughout the ‘90’s for girl and boy bands in the UK, achieving two top ten hits with the bands OTT and Girlthing.

While maintaining a strong friendship and musical partnership, the end of the ‘90’s brought the end of their marriage. Continuing to write through that time brought about the genesis of the poignant album The Wonderground, released in 2002 on their own
BoyMeetsGirl Music label. George and Shannon have also completed the remastered reissues of their past albums: Reel Life, the eponymous first album, and New Dream.

In 2005, look for three different dance mixes using samples of “Waiting For A Star To Fall” currently climbing the UK and Australian charts, by Cabin Crew (“Star To Fall”), Sunset Strippers (“Falling Stars”), and Mylo (“In Your Arms”).
